Frequently asked questions.

How does the sun compass work?

It combines your device magnetometer (for your heading) with real-time solar position calculations (Jean Meeus algorithms) for your GPS location. The golden needle on the dial always points toward the sun.

What is solar noon?

Solar noon is when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky — exactly due south in the northern hemisphere and due north in the southern hemisphere. It's the midpoint between sunrise and sunset.

What is golden hour?

Golden hour is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset when daylight is warm, soft, and diffused — popular with photographers. It typically lasts 20–60 minutes depending on your latitude and season.

Why do I need to share my location?

The sun's position depends entirely on where you are on Earth. Without your coordinates we can't calculate where the sun is in the sky.
